Know as a ‘noble vine’ back in the XVI Century it has always been a benchmark for oenologists, worldwide. The grapes come from vines cultivated in the sunniest areas in the hills to the left of the Tanaro river. The colour is a brilliant deep red with a very good body

It goes well, served with starters and meaty main courses.

Whites

roero arneis - barbo 1861

The vines of Arnais are very old in their origin and their use was already recorded in the 1400’s in the Roero region. For centuries the grapes grown in the rich soil of the region were used mostly for dessert wine production and only in the last few decades has a quality white wine been produced in its own right. The colour is a light yellow, deep, with green tints and aromas of flowers and fresh fruits and is characterised by its good body, acidity and slightly bitter almonds on the finish. It gains recognition for the harmony and elegance of emotions that it can inspire.

This gives its defined character and delicate flavour. The wine is aged for a few months with the wine lees before being filtered and bottled. It is a fresh and fruity wine lingering on the palate with hints on the finish of ripe summer fruit. barbaresco - barbo 1861

With an intense and brilliant ruby red colour, this complex wine elicits a bouquet reminiscent of raspberry and red berry jam. Its geranium and violet aromas are complimented by hints of green pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg with a woody finish of toasted nuts and vanilla.

The secret of this noble wine is the land around Alba with its chalk hills and clay substrate that is famed for the white truffle. The vineyards growing the Nebbiolo grape on these hills form the backdrop of what is the most magnificent scenery.
